Folks, I just wanted to tell you guys all about the gizmo project, which seems to be what might replace Skype. www.gizmoproject.com. You will need some help signing up for it, but more than one zoner on here has some vision, maybe one will help you. Anyway, I like it. Can't talk about everything it does here, I'd be wasting too much database space.
Hey, Nick
More than one Zoner (I'm a proud member of this group) uses Gizmo. Welcome aboard!
I won't go on an "I Love Gizmo" jag, here, but will mention two little things: Voicemail is free; Gizmo already includes call recording capability.
I urge y'all to check it out.
Cheers,
Dave in Boston

Unless the voice quality of Gismo has improved *significantly* from the last time I heard it, it's gonna take a whole lot to convince me that it's as good as you guys claim. I don't see how it could possibly replace Skype. Skype has over 3 Million users at any given moment, which is a pretty significant share of the VOIP market. I'm certainly not saying Gismo sucks and that it's doomed to failure, all I'm saying is let's just say I'm from St. Louis. In other words, show me.
I've noticed audio quality improvement since I've started uding Gizmo about 6 months ago. Many of my 1-on-1 Gizmo calls are comparable to Skype 1-on-one calls. The audio in Gizmo conferences needs dome improvement, and will probably get it, where possible. Who can say how much of Skype's market share Gizmo will get. It's new; Skype's been around for years.
i couldnt read my contact list with jaws but i could with window-eyes and others with jaws could read there contact list
gizmo seems to take less resources. It need to work, but it looks like it's getting the attention it deserves. The reason gizmo conference sound as they do is as far as I remember, the conference is actually on a phone system which degrades the overall quality. I hope they find a way to do inhouse conferencing. I have faith in gizmo. give it time, and it should blow skype out of the water.
Hmmmm, skype works on the Mac. How about Gizmo? I will certainly have a look in favor of finding as many apps that I can that will work with VoiceOver.
Gizmo is available for the Mac, Win32, and Linux platforms. I'd like to hear of your experience with Gizmo and Voice-Over.
Hey,
I tried Gizmo but it made my computer take longer to start up. I know it was Gizmo that did this because when I uninstalled it my computer was fine.
Hmmmmm I wonder if Gizmo has some problems.
Every piece of software written by us humans has problems. LOL. Regarding your experience, Radiolover, I have no suggestions. You say Gizmo is not starting when your operating system starts? How about when you log into your OS?

Cheers,
Dave (the little geek)
gizmo seems to stall stuff while it's starting up. like my internet connection for instance. that's about the only thing I've found.
I'll have to pay more attention to Gizmo's startup. If it stalls things, I have yet to notice. Has anyone checked Gizmo's forums? Maybe this has been addressed? Maybe it's time someone logged it?
Got Gizmo installed on the Mac and the install is quite accessible with Voiceover but I have been stopped by the silly security code. When I get someone to read it to me I'll then hope that there is a gizmo user I can try this with.
Okay! got it up and running on the Mac. I clicked on the test call button and that worked. If there are any gizmoers that would care to share there contact info or can give me a time in the eveining when they are available I will leave gizmo open and see if I can receive a call.
I'll leave gizmo open. My username is WillietheWoof. I don't know anyone who uses gizmo at all so this should be interesting.
Ok, Willy; My Gizmo name is wx1gdave. Feel free to add me; leave a voicemail, etc, etc...

Hey there dave. sory I missed you but your audio sounded good on the voicemail. This is running on the mac and the quality is quite good. I think it might be close to skype. NOw, how does one actually customize there voicemail? Couldn't find that one. Well, so, the mac works with gizmo and a voiceover user can use it. so, get your mac's all and have fun.
Hi!
Your audio on the voicemail sounds good, too. My next comp just may be a Mac. <tr>
If you call the Gizmo name 'record', you can record a custom voicemail greeting. I think you and I just missed one another, just like on the "twisted pair". Your machine called my machine, my machine called your machine, ... Hahaha.
GET GIZMO, ALL!
-Dave H
I just got Gizmo and I can't for the life of me figure my way around it!
still visual varification? on this odd programme?
The voice quality on gizmo is actually a littlebit lower then skype. There are some things I like better aoub gizmoproject but I prefer skype because it's more accessible and it does not slow my fiances computer down like gizmo does.
Livejournal phoneposts have been problematic because the dialpad will not let you use star or pound.
To get to it go to the contacts tab then shift tab to the edit field.
When I tryed a phonepost last I could not use pound and when I hung up it lost my post.
where do you go to download gizmo?
